Essential pantry items | Essential freezer items
The key to a great meal - or at least a tolerable one - for any time, mood or event is in keeping a well-stocked pantry and freezer. Not only does this allow you to elegantly rid yourself of last night's leftovers, but helps you prepare a meal you're not embarrassed by when the Pope stops in to say hello. Some of our best recipes have originated out of necessity during a spontaneous scramble to make a meal.
While we aren't too proud to keep a supply of lazy foods like frozen pizza, mac 'n' cheese, and tuna around, we also like to be able to prepare a palatable dinner without leaving the house. When well-stocked, this can be achieved in many ways, but slack on stocking your shelves and you'll be a stoned college kid again nurishing yourself on "potato gnarl" or "tuna, dorito bake" - which isn't always so bad, but shouldn't be a habit either.
With that in mind, we offer a list of items we feel should be in most pantries and freezers.

CONTEST WINNER...
I asked for great apron slogans and only got 7 entries - one from a cat and two from my sister who only wanted to see them on an apron (lucky for her, Hannukah is here). Alas, the choice was easy. Taylor won with "Trust cows over scientists - margarine sucks!" Thanks for the 3 other entries. Really.
